The idea of the book came from sharing my challenges openly with hundreds of women and health care providers throughout the years. During my talks, many people tell me how my story and my words inspire them. They comment on how the ways I look at the so called “tragic events” show them a different perspective. I became very passionate about sharing stories as a way of healing emotionally. 

After going through infertility, losing a baby, spending months in the NICU with a premature baby and then adjusting to life with a child with complex medical diagnoses, I realized that the health care system provides excellent acute care and treatments to treat a visible problem. There is no emotional support along the way. And if it matters to me, it probably matters to others as well. I had to find my own way to deal with my emotions and let go of incredibly painful experiences, which were transformed in the most amazing life lessons. I wanted to share this message widely that we are all capable of living a fulfilled life despite the challenges that are presented to us.
